Department Overview
The Director of Pupil Personnel Services gives direction to all special instruction and to all pupil services. The director improves coordination among regular instruction, special instruction and pupil services at the school level.
The major responsibilities of the director are to facilitate improvement of instruction and service, to participate in staffing the schools, to supervise and evaluate special education and pupil services staff, to oversee the diagnosis and placement process of students who are special education mandated, and to administer compliance with state and federal regulations.
To assist the director in carrying out the responsibilities of PL 94-142, there are 5 department supervisors for Pupil Personnel Services. Under the supervision of the Director of Pupil Personnel Services and in concert with the principals, they supervise and evaluate special education teachers and pupil service personnel, as well as paraprofessionals and teaching assistants.
Pupil Personnel Services is divided into Special Education and the following support services: Social Work, Guidance, Psychological, Speech and Language, Occupational Therapy and Services for the Hearing Impaired , Health and Assistive Technology. Special Education consists of the following programs: Adjusted Curriculum, Special Needs, Seriously Emotionally Disturbed, Resource Program(LD), Early Learning Center, Homebound Instruction and Out-of-District Placement.
