As discovered yesterday, there is an active sewer line that sits much higher than expected and is interfering with the manhole replacement at the intersections of Sidney and Oakwood Avenues. We met with the MDC this morning and in order to complete the manhole replacement, we need to setup a sewer line bypass on Sidney Ave to divert the active sewer line around the work site. This will involve a pump unit and a line being run down the roadway surface of Sidney Avenue to Oakwood Avenue. The pump unit will run continuously for the next few days and will be staffed around the clock. I am assured that the pump unit is very quiet and that any odors should be minimal as this is a direct connection and closed loop operation. We intend to implement the bypass operation today and to continue with the manhole replacement as soon as possible. The work may extend into Saturday and we are working closely with the MDC and the town engineering department to complete it as soon as possible.
Also, we will continue to have additional staff at the intersection of Sidney and Oakwood Avenues to ensure safe travel by students and families.
