An internship is an non-paid, high school credit opportunity for students to work with professionals in “real world” settings to gain an understanding of a career field and what it takes to be successful in an ever-changing world. The program involves active collaboration between student, internship host and a classroom teacher that creates a seamless integration of school and real world learning, enabling students to build knowledge and gain skills through this experience. The experience is designed to provide a special emphasis on the skills and competencies required for success. Students will have the opportunity to create a portfolio, develop 21st century skills, and plan their future educational and career paths. The internship program will integrate work-based learning with school-based learning, allow the opportunity to establish networks, and foster on-going collaboration with the community.
