As the Curriculum Specialist at Charter Oak International Academy for the past ten years, I have been deeply involved with our journey as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School. My passion for IB comes from my own joy of learning and sharing my interest in the natural world with others, and in knowing that learning becomes more powerful each time we engage in inquiry, initiate action, or make real-life, hands-on connections to the world. This is the way we learn best. My goal as Curriculum Specialist is to support collaborative problem-solving and inquiry for our children, so they can experience this joy every day.
I have been a teacher, here in West Hartford, in Granby and in Orange, CT, for 24 years. Through my students, as well as my own three children, who grew up in the West Hartford school system, I have seen countless learning styles and learning challenges. A Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from The University of Connecticut, Master’s Degree in Special Education and Elementary Education from St. Joseph University, and Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University have provided the tools to respond more effectively to these needs. As a Curriculum Specialist, I collaborate with teachers at Charter Oak and throughout West Hartford, to develop and implement research-based instructional strategies, and to support practices that continuously improve instruction.
Charter Oak International Academy, is a “Growth Mindset” community. We embrace our diversity of learners, and strive to engage every child as a lifelong learner.
I believe that “Anything worth doing is worth doing well”.
To teach our children well is a most worthwhile goal; I look forward to the continued partnership with families that helps us accomplish this goal.

Charter Oak International Academy is an International Baccalaureate World School. Our educational foundation is built upon the rich curriculum established by the West Hartford Public Schools. The Core Curriculum includes Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, Music, Art, and Physical Education. In addition to this core curriculum, our many programs enhance and enrich the learning of our students by fostering personal responsibility, pride in achievement and the love of learning for all children.
Our international focus teaches students about their own community and forges links to the world. The curriculum invites students to discover the interdependence of local, national and world cultures, builds an appreciation of diverse perspectives, and encourages active participation in our global society. Each child will learn about the world through inquiry units based on science and social studies, mathematics and language arts standards. These units will encourage students to delve more deeply into transdisciplinary themes exploring: who we are; where we are in place and time; how we express ourselves; how the world works; how we organize ourselves; and how we share the planet.
