Our mission is to promote a positive environment for students at Conard High School by funding educational programs for the school community and providing a forum for open communication between parents, teachers, and school administrators.

The PTO distributes important information via E-News, provide a forum for Conard Families to keep current on issues at school through Principal’s Coffees and other meetings, and facilitate parent participation at school. We also support enrichment programs throughout the school year.

We invite all families to support the PTO mission through payment of your annual dues. The requested PTO dues is $20. Your paid dues will entitle you to the Conard Directory, which will be available in an electronic format the week of September 25th.

The PTO dues are the major source of funds which allow us to financially support requests throughout the year for Teacher Wish Lists, Student Groups, Year End Awards, Principal Coffees, Speakers and activities identified throughout the year by the administration and teachers and benefiting our students! last year your generosity of donations matched by your employers allowed us to expand our support of the Conard Community!

During 2016-2017, we were able to fund several teacher grant requests, the year-end student awards, donations to student groups, we sponsored the teacher's back to school luncheon, Teacher Appreciation Day, Senior Breakfast at the Safe Grad Party, College Panel Night, Conard's Best Kept Secrets, West Hartford Scholarship Fund, War-Cheif Sports Council and town wide charities such as the Foundation for WH Public School's "What's Cookin" Event, Mayor'sCharity Ball, Children's Charity Ball and WHCTV, Community of Concern and more.

Parent Events

Notes from Conard PTO Program: CONARD'S BEST KEPT SECRETS

Program Goal: To help parents and families figure out how to be a connected

parent in the Conard community as well as helping their child maximize their

experience in high school.

The evening event had a four-member panel, all parents from the Conard

community. Each panel member had a specific topic they discussed and shared

personal insight. At the end of these presentations, there was a question and

answer session.

Hillary Sherrill shared the multiple ways of staying connected in the Conard

  • Website (demonstrated important tabs, and how-to’s)
  • Directory (for sale by PTO each year)
  • Teacher contact (emails directly from power school)
  • Principal Coffees (each month, alternate between am/pm mtgs)
  • Enews (weekly email blast from PTO)
  • Guidance department emails for specific grades
    • (find under the guidance tab on the website)

The Building

Dwayne Grabber gave insight into the logistics of getting around the Conard

Only time parents are really walking throughout the building is during Open

House and there are always plenty of staff on hand to help.

Key rooms:

  • The office
  • Auditorium
  • Cafeteria
  • Room 169 or Seminar room for Principal’s Coffees
  • School Store
  • Gymnasium

Conard Staff and Administration

Kate DeJulius spoke and is one of eight guidance counselors on staff. As of next

school year, two counselors will be assigned to just Freshman students. The

remaining 6 will be assigned the rest of the student body. More information will

follow in the coming months.

  • Julio Duarte, principal
  • 3 assistant principals:
  • Teachers are highly accessible and eager and willing to help students
  • There are math and English labs during the school day where students can get extra help in these subjects

Academic Planning

Linda Geisler spoke concerning how to help your student make course selections

while thinking about all of the other activities they will be juggling in their lives.

  • Make decisions based on your child, not what everyone else is doing
  • Teachers and counselors will be advising, but you know your child andwhat they can handle
  • Plan ahead (what direction will they be taking: college-bound, gap year, athlete)
  • Think about electives, summer school, driver’s ed, sports, etc… All of these come into play each semester and change the dynamics of your child’s schedule

The panel answered many questions from the audience and then the program

Buy A Brick

Brick walkway order form

In September 2004, a new brick walkway was built at Conard High School. The walkway leads to the Conard gymnasium and Robert J. McKee Stadium (renamed and dedicated in September 2003). Funds for this walkway were made possible through the sales of engraved bricks. Approximately 10,000 bricks were needed to complete this project, 700 of which are now engraved.

Sales of bricks will continue for years to come, until all the blank bricks have been replaced with personalized engraved bricks. Purchase your own engraved brick for the walkway, or buy one for a special student, teacher, coach, friend, or in memory of someone special.
