Student Drop-off & Safety Rules
The safety of our students is our highest priority, and you can help to make sure that we maintain a safe environment by following the correct procedures when dropping students off in the morning. I am concerned that parents are parking their cars in the drop-off zone which causes others to drop off their students in the middle of the road. The drop off zone is located on the east side of Wardwell Ave. between the two driveways into the staff parking lot, between the hours of 7:30 AM and 8 AM. Parking is allowed anytime beyond the second driveway alongside the baseball field on the east side of Wardwell. Please be sure to adhere to the following procedures when dropping your children off in the morning.
Do not drive through the parking lot to drop off your students. Children use walkways that pass through the parking lot and driving through the lot puts those children in danger.
Do not drop students off on Sedgwick Road. Sedgwick road is a high volume road and is posted as “no stopping”. When you stop to let someone out, you block a lane of traffic causing a dangerous situation.
Do not drop students off on the west side of Wardwell Ave. It is a no parking zone and you may be ticketed. Students are in danger when they cross the street with traffic moving through the area.
The correct place to drop your students off is on the east side of Wardwell Ave. between the two driveways to the staff parking lot. Please pull forward as far as you are able to allow those behind you to access the drop off zone.
Do not park in the drop off zone between 7:30 A.M. and 8 A.M. as that causes congestion and results in other vehicles letting children off in the middle of the street.The West Hartford Police Department works closely with our security guards and teachers to monitor this area. When anyone violates the above safety procedures, they can and will be ticketed. So please help us keep our students safe. If everyone follows the procedures, things will go smoothly in the morning and the chance that one of our students will be seriously injured is greatly diminished.
If you are attending an early morning meeting at the school, you may park along the east side of Wardwell Ave. alongside the baseball field. If you need to use the handicap parking space, please identify yourself to any staff member on duty and proceed cautiously to the handicap parking area in the staff parking lot.
In addition to following our safety procedures, please understand that teachers on duty are doing their best to manage traffic and look after the safety of your children. Please be courteous to them and follow their directions. We do not want anyone to be injured because we are in a hurry. Thank you for your help in keeping Sedgwick a safe school.
