Medical Screening Procedures
The approach to health in our society is referred to as WELLNESS. Screening procedures are done in school to assist the student in maintaining a personal level of wellness so that the educational process can take place in a smooth manner.
Vision and Hearing Screenings will be done in the fall in Kindergarten, Grades 1, 3, 4 and 5. After two abnormal screenings conducted by the nurse, a referral will be sent home recommending that the child be seen by a physician.
Scoliosis Screenings will be done in the winter for females in grades 5 and 7 and males in grade 9. If there is a question of an abnormal exam, the student will be screened by Dr. Douglas MacGilpin, the medical advisor to the West Hartford Public School system. He will then make a medical referral if necessary.
Please call the School Nurse with any questions regarding the required school screening procedures.
