Welcome To Fifth Grade
Welcome to Fifth Grade! This is the final year of our students’ Norfeldt experience. Much of what we do is in preparation for their successful transition to middle school. Our emphasis at this level is on organization, independence, prioritizing assignments, and balancing extra-curricular activities with academic responsibilities. Fifth grade is filled with many new opportunities for personal and academic growth. Our fifth graders take part in the Recycling Team, Student Council, Jazz Band, Encore Strings, Inter-El, Art Quest, Unified Sports, The Green Team, Be the Media, Morning Announcements, and our Cross Grade Level Mentoring Programs with the primary grades. Academic growth in fostered through exciting trips to places such as "Under the Stars" at Central Connecticut State University, The Connecticut Science Center and a visit from Noah Webster House. In addition, there are many social activities that promote positive character development, including the Unified Sports Festival, Turkey Bowl, the Fifth Grade Luncheon, and Class Day.
Our homework policy centers around the practicing of concepts and the reinforcement of skills already taught in the classroom. Homework consists of a mixture of long and short term assignments and projects, preparing our students for the transition to middle school. Students have a homework planner in which they record their assignments. Homework assignments should take between 45 - 60 minutes each night, including independent reading and instrument practice. If your child requires more or less time to complete homework assignments, please contact the teacher.
