Mrs. Boudo - Resource Teacher

I joined the Charter Oak family as a Special Education teacher in 2017.  I am a proud graduate of Central Connecticut State University, where I received my Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, my Masters degree in Reading and Language Arts and my 6th Year in Reading and Language Arts.

In addition to my passion for teaching and learning, I love spending time with my beautiful family including my husband, two children and lots of extended family.

Mr. Duquette - School Psychologist

I am extremely excited to join the Charter Oak family. As a part of the Pupil Services Team at COIA, I have the pleasure of working with students in a number of capacities including: group or individual counseling, working collaboratively with staff to create an optimal learning environment for specific student needs, psychological evaluations, behavior consultation, and whole-school initiatives.

Before joining the team at Charter Oak International Academy, I worked as a school psychologist in another local community and have spent time working as a physical education teacher for children with special needs, and on research teams exploring learning difficulties. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Connecticut, and my Masters & Educational Specialist Degrees from the University of Delaware. Outside of school, I enjoy playing hockey & soccer, music, and spending time outside.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns about your child!

Mr. Hummel - School Social Worker

I cannot imagine a better school for me than Charter Oak. As social worker I have the privilege of working with all students and teachers and with many of our families. My job is to help students do as well as they possibly can here in school, which often means helping them improve communicating, solving problems, getting along with other students, working their hardest or their home life. Parents can feel free to call me anytime with concerns about school or home.

The Pupil Services Department at Charter Oak International Academy is dedicated to supporting all students in their academic, social, and emotional growth. We work closely with all staff to create positive learning environments that help our students achieve to their maximum potential.

Resource Program

PPT is comprised of a school administrator, a teacher, a member of the pupil services staff and parents or guardians.  Any student who is experiencing difficulties may be referred to the team.  Once a student has been referred, this team reviews the student’s progress, assesses the student’s needs, and, if necessary, makes recommendations for evaluations and/or support services.  Parents are encouraged to attend the PPT meetings and to be active members at the meetings.

Each elementary school has a resource program. Students are enrolled in the resource program as a result of PPT recommendations. The resource teacher is responsible for special education students who require support to be successful in the elementary school. The educational program is developed based on individual student evaluations and recommendations from staff members. The resource program is coordinated with the regular classroom teacher.

The Student Success Team (SST) offers support for students who are experiencing social/emotional and/or academic difficulties. The team is comprised of teachers and support staff. The goal of the student success team is to determine appropriate interventions that will increase the student’s success and to monitor and adjust interventions over time.
