1.    Define the Task (or what am I doing)

You will be researching about an African American who has made an important contribution to society.  You will choose one person, take notes (see attachment for questions you need to answer), write an expository paper and present the information to the class.  Your papers will be available for teachers to check out to read to their classes.

Your papers will also include a bibliography. Remember when you are taking notes to fill out the bibliography sheets.

2.    Information Seeking Strategies (What will I be needing to find the        information?)

You will discover the information in books, magazines, CD-ROMS, and on African Americans of Achievement Web Quest

3.    Location & Access (Where do I find the information? What do I look up?)

Where are the sources? In the school library, public library, in your classroom.

What are some keywords you will use to look up information?

4.    Use of Information (The Messy Part, finding the answers and writing them down)

Start off with African Americans of Achievement Web Quest, use the books that are on the cart, find the information from a museum.  Remember to use an index in a book.  When looking for information on a person, look up last name FIRST.

Next begin taking notes to answer the following:

        1.    Date and place of birth/Date and place of death (if deceased)

        2.    What are some things that happened in their childhood, which helped him/her become famous?

    3.    Who are some people who influenced your person? How were they influential?

    4.    What role did education play in his/her life?

    5.    What is your person most famous for?

    6.    What special awards or honors did he/she receive?

    7.    What challenges did he/she face along the way to fame?

    8.    Who or what tried to stand in the way of success for this person?

    9.    How is the world different today because of this person?

    10.    What lessons can we take from this person to make ourselves better?

 5.    Synthesis (What is my final product? What do I do with all this information?)

6.   Evaluation (How do I feel about this project?)
