"A true conservationist is a man who knows that the world
is not given by his fathers, Data By School: |
School Savings Between November 1st and 30th, each of West Hartford's public schools will work to reduce their electricity usage by 10% below their respective baseline. Baselines were determined using historical energy data for each school. Thus, each school is competing against itself to reduce its electricity consumption. Factors beyond student and staff control, such as the efficiency of the building or air conditioning, have been factored in and will not give one school an advantage over another. Teachers are encouraged to engage students in the creation of tasks to do both in the classroom and throughout the school on a daily basis. These may include: switching lights off, making sure devices are unplugged, minimizing wasteful practices and showing concern for the environment. All schools meeting the challenge will receive an award and the school that reduces their energy use the most will receive The Conservation Challenge Grand Trophy.

goal of a ten percent reduction. The 100% figure at the top
represents reaching that goal of a 10% reduction in energy costs
over a daily average for the previous two years.
