Flat Stanley's visit to Philadelphia What an adventure I have had! You remember, right, how you sent me in the mail to your cousins, Hannah and Caleb? When they got me they said, "Look, it's Flat Stanley!" They could not wait to take me along when they went to the Philadelphia Art Museum I could not wait either. It sounded like fun. Hannah said that the last time they went there that it was great! They had looked at lots of beautiful paintings. This time they planned to go to the armor part so they could see the things that the knights would have worn into battle. It sure sounded exciting!
Finally it was time to go. We all got into the car, and started off. When we finally got there, I was surprised! It was a very, very big building. We walked inside. As soon as we had paid, Hannah's Dad said, "Let's go to the armor room!" So off we went! As soon as we walked in, my mouth flew open. I could not believe it! There were suits of armor and helmets of all kinds. There were horses with armor on, and all kinds of weapons. I could not wait to take a closer look at every thing. So we began to look. It was great! We had just walked into the second room (the one with the helmets) when it happened. There it was! The biggest, most beautiful helmet I had ever seen. I forgot I was not supposed to touch anything. I ran towards it, but I tripped on a loose board and fell headlong into the helmet. Then everything started happening at once. A loud siren went off, and guards came running from every direction. They grabbed me and one of them said, "The manager is going to talk to you," in a very gruff voice. I was scared! 1 could see Hannah trying to tell the guards that I didn't mean to touch the helmet, but they were not listening. They carried me to the manager's office. There I got another surprise. The manager looked at me, and I looked at him. It was Mr. Dart, the man I had caught the robbers for! He told me he had sold the other museum and had come to work here. He also said I could go home. He was not angry! Outside I met Hannah, Caleb and their family. They were glad to see me. I told them what happened. Their mom said, "Well, I guess that all's well that ends well." I guess I agree. Then we all went home. and another account of what Stanley did... Youll never guess where I went!! I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art and there were knights armor and weapons. Most of them were in glass cases, but I could slip in and try them on. One was my size!! I imagined that I was a noble knight charging at the enemy. I had just won a great victory when Caleb said, "Its time to go look at the paintings." They were neat too. Love, Flat Stanley |
