Flat Stanley's visit to Montana Hi Kurt, It's great to be back to West Hartford once again. My trip to Montana was Great! Let me start from the beginning. The Jacksons drove me from West Hartford up to Manchester, NH. The following morning we were up at 4am to get ready to go to the airport by 5:30 am to catch a flight to La Guardia airport in New York. From there we got on a flight to Chicago, O'Hara airport. Then we proceeded onto a flight to our final destination Salt Lake City, Utah. From Salt Lake we drove up to Butte, MT which is home for the Jacksons. It was a long day for all of us. The trip from Salt Lake to Butte is about 6 1/2 to seven hours long. The Jacksons son, Sean, came along on the trip. He came out to visit Montana like myself however he was only here for a week while I was here for three weeks. We got to visit several points of interest in Butte, like the Berkeley Pit, once the largest truck operated open mine in the US. Butte is said to have the richest hills in the world from all the mining that was once done here. We also went to visit the World Museum of Mining and the 1899 mining camp. I've brought back some brochures of Butte. We also went hiking up at Storm Lake. That was really awesome. We must have been at least seven thousand feet above sea level, if not higher. The view was breath taking. Montana is truly a beautiful state - lots of wide open country, hills, mountains, and most of all SKY. That is why it is called the "Big Sky Country." I really enjoyed my trip, wished all of you could have come with me. Sincerely Flat Stanley |
