Nature Buds

Our Nature Buds program pairs up first grade students with third grade students to teach both groups about nature by using hands on  methods in the Wolcott Children's Forest

Nature Bud Poetry

Autumn - Grayson & Truong Do
A pop seed that explodes in your hand,
Bittersweet that turns red for decoration,
Crab apples taste good to birds,
But taste bitter to us.
Elizabeth & Kelly
Touch-me-not explodes when you touch it,
Green sprouting seeds spread when they pop,
It's food for birds.
Milkweed blows everywhere for butterfly eggs and caterpillars.
Nicholas & Sam
Touch-me-nots exploding everywhere,
Crab apples falling from the trees,
Orange leaves fluttering to the ground,
Purple pokeweed hanging by their stems,
That's what we saw outside.
Nature - Jody & Victoria
We see birdhouses on trees,
Ducks quacking and swimming,
Touch-me-nots pop when you touch,
Bittersweet like blueberries.
Molly & Crystal
It pops when you touch it and it flies,
Birds like to eat bittersweet,
Milkweed in a plant that has seeds inside.
The touch-me-nots pops,
when you touch it,
and falls to the floor.
Austin, Ben, Nicholas & Zak
Looking at the reflection of the pond,
Watching plants grow higher and higher,
Vines reaching for the sunlight,
Trees bursting out of the ground,
Seeds popping out into a baby plant.
The Children’s Forest   Priya & Vannesa
5,4,3,2,1… Explode!!
The Touch-me-nots.
Did you know that seeds travel everywhere,
Even in abandoned deserts.
When you go to the forest,
You see Bittersweet.
People use it for decorations and celebrations.
And also when you go to the forest,
you see Crabapples.
People don’t eat them, but birds love them.
Yum! Yum! Yum!
Poke berries.  No, Don’t Eat Them!
Those are good for birds.
Old trees are old like grandparents.
Bugs love to eat them and insects live in there.
The Children’s Forest   Briyaka & Elaina
Birds fight for pokeweed to eat,
Uh Oh! I touched a Touch-me-not.
Boom! It explodes.

Yuck! The bittersweet is too bitter.
Look at that log roll down the hill
To make a barbecue. Yummy!
Look at the sun shining on me’
and bringing the gloryness.
Oh, look at that!
There’s a pond with ducks going Quack.
The wind blows the trees.
I can’t hear it, but I can feel it.
Nature   Elizabeth & Katherine
Ducks quacking in the pond,
Birds eating Bittersweet,
Touch-me-nots exploding seeds,
Hanging birdhouses on trees,
Waiting for birds,
Leaves rustling in the wind,
Vines twirling to the sun,
Trees reflecting on the pond.
In the Forest   Ben & Jake
Caw! Caw!  I hear the Blackbirds in the air,
Ducks quacking at me from the pond,
Green algae like spinach,
Berries gripping the vine,
To keep from falling off,
Wind blowing leaves,
gently off the trees,
Seeds bursting out of flowers.
Johnny & Lerenso
Nature is important to us.
Touch-me-nots like fireworks popping,
Flowers blooming everywhere,
Trees old and young,
Milkweed like a hungry mouth,
waiting to be fed.

The Children’s Forest   Jessica & Jessa
Leaves are like a baby rattle shaking.
Some change color, red and yellow
and then they die.

The Forest   Chiamaka & Rory
Boom!  A Touch-me-not bursts open,
Seeds are flying in the air.
Whish!  The wind blows a tree down.
Plop!  A Crab Apple falls to the ground.
Trevor & Romery?
Colorful leaves falling off
the autumn trees.
Seeds fling with the wind,
glittering in the sun.
Ducks flying about the clouds.
Touch-me-nots bursting.
Pokeweed getting eaten.
The Forest  Britney & Emily
Gazing at the rainbow colored flowers,
Touch-me-nots explode in your hand
The pond making shapes by the blowing wind,
Ducks making sounds,
Trees gathering together.
Poison Ivy   Callum & Chris
The wind whishing through the poison ivy.
Be careful it can sting you.
Stay out of the way.
Jesus & Bryan
Duckling quack as we walk by,
Crab apples falling by the wind,
Birds perching,
Vines moving and
Pokeweed popping.
Ryan & Evan
Birds flying in the sky eating seeds,
Seeds falling down,
Making new flowers or trees.
Pop!  The Touch-me-nots explodes.
More seeds, more beautiful,
The world gets.

Wolcott Forest  Sarah, Sarah & Anne
Touch-me-nots like green booms
Exploding seeds,
Milkweed milk spilling from its container,
Bittersweet yellow berries waiting,
To be eaten by birds,
Vines climbing up trees.
