A Fun Halloween Day
By Grace Miller
On October 31st
Mrs. Sinatro’s and Ms. Greenwell’s class put on a Halloween play called
“The Little Old Lady Who Wasn’t Afraid of Anything.” Mr. Smith
thought of the idea to perform the play. They recited poems and sang
songs. They were all about Halloween. In the play the main character was
the old lady. The characters were two shoes, one pair of pants and a
shirt. There was also a pair of white gloves, a black hat and an orange
pumpkin. The different items were all trying to scare the old lady but
it wasn’t working very well. The clothes made a scarecrow when they got
put together. Both of the classes then sang a Halloween Safety song.
While I was watching the play I noticed the audience was very much
enjoying the play. Caroline W. told me their costumes were made at
school using paper from the art room. After they finished the kids tied
their costumes around their neck to look like their character. There
were kids performing and kids doing other things in the play like being
the narrator and making the noises like when the shoes clipped-clopped,
the gloves clapped, and the pair of pants went wiggle, wiggle. I also
interviewed Kevin V. who was one of the narrators in the play asking
these questions:
Me:
Did you have fun?
Kevin: Yes.
It was very fun.
Me:
What was your favorite part of the play?
Kevin: I
liked the part when the pumpkin came on stage.
Me:
How much did the teachers help?
Kevin:
A little bit. They only helped to organize it and choose parts.
The play was wonderful. It’s amazing that they could put together a
great play so quickly. At the end of the day before the Kindergarteners,
First and Second Graders marched in the Halloween parade Ms. Beckley’s
fourth grade class helped them get in their costumes. They were dressed
up in all different costumes like princesses, superheroes, animals, even
a pumpkin! The people in the parade, including the spectators were
excited and seemed to enjoy themselves. What a fun school day Halloween
was.
