Our friend, a mallard hen,
is back for the tenth year with her little trail of ducklings
following her through Whiting Lane's courtyard. Did you
know that the mallard duck is the most common duck in North
America? They can live in almost any calm water
environment, and can be seen all over the Northern Hemisphere!
These little ones at our school give us a great opportunity to
observe and learn about a ducks life, especially see how they
live with humans around them. With the impact of human
interaction, a duck's life can be changed forever. We are
taking time to learn about these creatures, what they need to
survive, and why they would choose our courtyard as their home.
Scroll down to see some of the things we are doing to make sure
these ducklings get their proper upbringing before they move on.

UPDATE:
Our mother mallard returned! On Monday, June 23rd, she
came out from the bushes with twelve peeping
ducklings following her! Animal Control caught the
mother and her family and released them in back of the
school. Best of luck new family! |
