| Disciplined Based Art Education

The West Hartford Public Schools believes the visual arts are fundamental,
essential , and unique in enabling students to attain their optimum
intellectual, emotional and aesthetic development. The visual arts curriculum
encompasses the four components of Comprehensive Art Education, which includes
art production, art history, aesthetics, and art criticism. The content and
processes are shared among the four components. |
| Art History: Students will understand the visual arts
in relation to history and culture. |
| Art Production: Students will understand and apply
media, techniques, and process, they will apply elements and organizational
principles. The students will consider, select and apply a range of subject
matter, symbols and ideas. |
| Art Criticism: Students will reflect upon, describe,
analyze , interpret and evaluate their own and others' work. |
| Aesthetics: Students will make connections between
visuals arts, other disciplines and daily life. |
