Fourth Grade Homework Expectations

    • 45 to 60 minutes per night
    • 30 minutes of reading per night (additional to above)

Homework for Parents

  • Check the agenda for homework assigned. Is all of the homework finished?
  • Give your child a practice spelling test the night before their test.
  • Look for other papers that need to be signed and returned.
  • Help your child learn basic math facts through fun drill. (in the car on the way to practice, as your setting the table for dinner …)

The Parental Role

  • Make homework (including nightly reading) a priority.
  • Create a quiet, organized work area away from distractions.
  • Establish a quiet, calm work time.
  • Positively support neat and completed work with praise.
  • Assist in the clarification of directions. (It’s okay for students to make mistakes on homework. We learn best through understanding our mistakes.)
  • Encourage your child to return completed homework to the backpack for a safe journey back to school. (However, if homework is left at home, please don’t drive it to school for your child. Allow your child to experience the consequence for late homework and learn responsibility.)
