1. Sharon LaPointe called the meeting to order at 3:45 pm.
2. Treasurer’s Report
Sharon McHale gave an overview of the budget and Income Statement. The budget is looking as expected for this point in the year. She pointed out that Scrip income is about as expected and that the PTO is continuing to encourage more families to use the Scrip program as we are hoping it will be a major fundraiser for the year. She also pointed out that we have $800 of unbudgeted fundraising income from the sale of Morley t-shirts.
3. Updates
a. Programming
Kris Monnes reported that Bingo Night was a huge success. The next event will be a Winter Dance from 3:30-5:00 on Friday February 10th. Children should bring a handmade valentine for our Community Service Committee to deliver in our community. The Talent Show will be held on March 31st. The committee is encouraging children of all ages to participate.
b. Community Service
Suzanne Ruffee reported that the coats collected during the Winter Coat Drive were delivered to The Villages. The committee will be delivering Valentines made by Morley students to elderly neighbors throughout our community. They will also collect gently used books in conjunction with Dr. Seuss Read Across America Day, and deliver them to the Literacy Council. The committee is also planning to collect donations for Locks of Love on an upcoming Crazy Hair Day.
c. KIDS Fund
Peggy Mantz reported that there have been no new KIDS Fund requests. The balance in the fund remains at $2,150.
d. Health Council – No report
e. Pond House
Sharon McHale reported that planning is going smoothly for the Pond House Fundraiser. The event will take place on Friday, April 7th. There will be a live band and silent auction, and ad space will be sold in the program as an additional fundraiser. All proceeds will go toward a technology and Smart Board package for the Media Center.
4. Principal’s Report
Because the School Board has proposed two different school calendars for the 2007-2008 school year, Dr. Rosow Stokoe passed around the proposals and asked for parents to vote for their preferred option (school starting before or after Labor Day). It was also noted that the School Board delayed the vote regarding school start times until next year, therefore school start times will remain the same for the upcoming school year.
Dr. Rosow Stokoe expressed her concerns regarding safety on the playground during recess time. Because the fields have been too muddy to play on, the administration has had to make some new rules regarding the type of play allowed on the blacktop. Football and other “rougher” sports will not be allowed on a temporary basis, due to the crowding on the blacktop.
The Love and Logic parenting sessions are going well, with approximately 30-40 people attending.
5. New Business – no new business reported.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:45. The next PTO Meeting will be on Thursday, March 30th at 6:30 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Stacy Raney
