Writing a Bibliography

 

    The Charter Oak Media Center follows the curriculum and standards approved by the West Hartford Board of Education, including research skills using the Big6 Information Problem-Solving model. 


    K-2 Program:

  • Develop an appreciation of literature and a variety of authors
    Introduce locating information in a library
  • Introduce organization of library resources, including alphabetical order, parts of a book, and location of books and other resources
  • Introduce multimedia resources and technology, including use of the internet
     

    3-5 Program:

  • Appreciate literature and learn differences in literary genre
  • Use access tools such as the card catalog system, computer resources, etc.
  • Use multimedia resources and technology, including use of the internet 
  • Develop the use in problem solving and research,
  • Learn to locate information in a variety of sources including books, periodicals and multimedia resources
     

The Big6 is a set of skills which provide a strategy for effectively and efficiently meeting information needs.  It can be used with ANY information problem you encounter.

There are six skills necessary to solve any information problem. They are:
