What is the PTO?
Aiken PTO is a group of parents, teachers and staff members who work together to create a sense of community, bring valuable programs to our students, purchase materials for the school, provide programs for Aiken parents, and host family events.
How Does the PTO Raise Funds?
Our largest fundraiser for the PTO is the Genevieve’s wrapping paper sale, which is held in September. By purchasing products form Genevieve’s and selling to friends and family, you will help us to raise the funds that allow us to assist with the cost of field trips, purchase educational materials for our school, sponsor valuable educational programs for our children, and host great family events. We also hold smaller fundraisers throughout the year such as the coffee cake sale, the note card sale, Aiken Orchard, and the silent auction held at our Fun Fair. Of course, our fundraising would not be successful without your help and participation. Our fundraising efforts make it possible for us to enhance the school experience for all Aiken children by providing valuable programs, family events, educational materials that exceed the school budget.
Examples of Programs and Events the PTO has Sponsored:
Simple Machines Materials for 3rd Grade Wing Masters Program Mystic Institute Program- Native Americans and the Sea Sidewalk Chalk for Recess Funding for Field Trip Assistance Nutmeg Award winning Books for the Library Books on Children with Disabilities for 4th Grade Supplies for the Mentor Program The Bike Rodeo-children learned bike safety rules from our West Hartford Police Officers
What Can I Do To Help at PTO Events?
You can help by lending your time and talent at many events throughout the year. We host events such as Pizza and Bingo night, the Snow Ball, the Bike Rodeo, the Aiken Orchard Tile Painting, and the great Aiken Fun Fair. You can help prepare for these events by decorating, setting up, and picking up supplies. At the events, we need help with serving pizza and other food items, distributing prizes, making cotton candy, distributing tickets, and much more. Any time you can participate makes each event a success! If you would like to get involved, please contact a PTO Board member.

PTO meetings are held in the Aiken library at 7 pm.
What Happens at a PTO Meeting?
We hold meetings through out the school year. We have a valuable and informative parent program at the beginning of each meeting. In the past we have covered topics such as Keeping Sports Fun, School Lunch Nutrition, and College Funding. Following the Parent Program is the PTO business meeting. We discuss fundraising, upcoming family events, and vote on funding requests from teachers and staff members, hear from staff members as well as Principal McKay. We encourage all Aiken parents to attend.
