| Welcome to Fifth Grade!
This is the final year of our students' Aiken experience. Much of
what we do is in preparation for their successful transition to middle
school. Our emphasis at this level is on organization,
independence, prioritizing assignments, and balancing extra-curricular
activities with academic responsibilities.
Fifth grade is filled with many new opportunities for personal and academic growth. Our fifth graders take part in the Aiken Safety Patrol, Student Council, Inter-El, morning announcements, and our study buddy program with the primary grades. Academic growth in fostered through exciting trips to places such as The Boston Museum of Science, the Freedom Trail, and Talcott Mountain Science Center. In addition, there are many social activities that promote positive character development, including the Winter Luncheon, the Fifth Grade Dinner, and Wampanoag Country Club.
Our culminating research project is Freedom Quest. This activity enables students to apply the academic, personal, and social skills they have developed throughout the year. Students often cite this as one their most memorable, enjoyable, and rewarding fifth grade experiences. |
