The 2002-2003 School year has been designated as the Year of Professional Development for Technology! A major priority in our district is to insure our faculty has available a multitude of training options to increase classroom integration. Listed below are the choices available:
8 Training for Excellence –The WHPS Department of Information Technology provides scheduled weekly classes in Microsoft Access, Microsoft Publisher, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint, Windows 9X and Lotus Notes Email. These classes are available at our Town Hall training center. (see Calendar here)

Building Curriculum and Staff
Improvement days (CSI) designated for technology. Wednesday afternoons
are early dismissal days designated for Professional Development in our
district. A Principal or department supervisor can designated the allocated
building CSI’s for technology. Upon
selecting a date a maximum of 4 class
options may be chosen from a booklet to offer within a building. This
insures all levels of expertise are accommodated.

8 Town wide Curriculum and Staff Improvement program (CSI), a professional development series mandated by the State of Connecticut. This series provides teacher training with CEU credits for a range of curriculum/classroom topics. WHPS schedules the CSI series semi-annually. Each series run for three consecutive Wednesday afternoons from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and one staff development day (election day). A minimum of 10 technology offerings is available to all faculty in the district on various levels of technology.

8 New Network Training - As new schools are brought online, a standard set of 4 classes is provided for school staff. These include Introduction to the PC and the network, Windows, overview of available software on the network and use of the media center and Lotus Notes. Following these introductory classes an Information Technology staff member is available onsite on a regular basis for small-group or one-on-one instruction and support.

8 Vacation CyberAcademy – During vacations in the months to come we offer full and multi-day classes geared toward curriculum and technology integration. Teachers are immersed in learning without interruption for all day hands on seminars. Classes are scheduled during Winter vacations, February and April vacations.

8 Capital Region Education Council (CREC) - Off-campus, we have the benefit of the Capital Region Education Council (CREC), which provides technology training with CEU credits to faculty throughout the state. The Information Technology department registers and pays for all WHPS faculty who attend classes at CREC. These classes are available 12 months of the year, weekdays, weekends and evenings.

8 In addition to all of the above, Information Technology staff provides before and after school classes at each school for individual needs. We work one on one with teachers, on request, to reinforce and support specific software knowledge and curriculum integration topics.
