Procedure: 

1. Teacher lecture to describe the various components of a newspaper. Journalism topics, vocabulary, layout and graphic design are discussed as a prerequisite for the unit of study.

2. Students view and discuss the variety of print newspapers as well as viewing the electronic versions online. Discussion of immediate online feedback verses paper publication time should take place.

3. Review the Introduction directions focusing on the different sections of the newspaper...i.e. News, Features, Sports, Editorials, Entertainment, and Guidelines. Use the links below.

4. View Florida newspapers and school newspapers on the Internet to discuss components that are similar and different among each.

5. After research is complete and groups are set, select an activity from the list below and create an online newspaper with teacher directed criteria. An online template or web editor can be utilized from the resources provided.

6. Evaluate newsletters for journalism quality as well as grammar and spelling. Use internet resources.

Additional Activities:

1.Create a one page or multi-page newsletter. Use the newsletter templates to create your own newsletter.

 2.Select a name for your news letter by browsing through the listing of regional newspapers.
