Here are basic guidelines which can take your students through the
step-by-step processes for any middle school writing exercises. Resources are
linked to the appropriate topics.
WRITE
QUEST:
http://www.people.virginia.edu/~dlf3m/writequest/index.html
This webquest reads more like a slide show presentation, but it is addressed
specifically to intermediate-level teachers. It attempts to recreate the
expository writing process for your students, making the assignments immediate
and the results transformational. Highlights on this site are the sample
lesson plans and assignments, where students will link to various activities
to try their own hand at each particular writing format.
THE POWER OF WORDS:
http://www.coreknowledge.org/CKproto2/resrcs/lessons/01_8_PowerWords.pdf
Use this unit to focus student awareness on the power of both the written and
spoken word. Your class will examine speeches from John F. Kennedy, Martin
Luther King Jr., and texts/essays by Rachel Carson and E.B. White. Through
careful examination of excellent examples, the process of writing, and writing
tools and techniques, students should be able to recognize the strength
available through the medium of essays and then apply those techniques to
their own writings.
WRITING PROMPTS
AND JOURNAL TOPICS:
http://www.canteach.ca/elementary/prompts.html

list that will help you to keep them targeted.
