Kid Pix Exploration Part Three: Slide Show

Participants will use the application called SlideShow and the five slides they have to created to make a multimedia presentation.

Objectives:

Participants will:

Use the slide selection feature to select and order their slides

Incorporate sound, transitions, and set the Time Slider

Save their slide show

Activity:

Participants will locate pictures (slides) from a folder and place them into each moving van. After all five slides are in place, participants will add transitions and sound to appropriate slides. The time slider will be used to set the amount of time each slide shows.

Product:

The final product will be a five slide multimedia presentation.

1. Open Kid Pix and go to the GOODIES menu, click and drag down to "Switch to Slide Show." You will see several moving vans as pictured below. Click on the first button (circled below) to select a slide.

Slide Selector

Click on the Slide Selector icon (circled in blue) and navigate to the folder containing your Kid Pix pictures. Once you find the picture you want, click on the "select" button. (Select the first solid colored slide.)

Continue until all five slides are placed in moving vans. Your last slide should also be a solid colored slide.

Sound Selector

Click on the Pick a Sound icon (circled in blue) and you will see the sound dialog box. Preview sounds by clicking on the sound icon and then the "Preview" button. When you find a sound you want, click on the "Select" button. You can also record your own voice by clicking on the microphone. You do not need a sound for every slide.

Transition Selector

Click on the Pick a Transition icon to choose a graphic way of going from one slide to the next. You can preview transitions in the same way you did the sounds. It is considered good design to use the same transition throughout your presentation. You should choose a transition for every slide.

Time Slider

The last thing to do is to select how long you want each slide to show. You do this with the Time Slider. Click and drag the bar to the right. A pop-up clock will show how many seconds your slide will show.

The control panels are used to play your slide show. The Undo Guy and the Firecracker have the same functions as in Kid Pix. The right triangle is the play button and the triangle in the rectangle plays your slide show in a loop. If you select this button, you must double click to stop your slide show.

Play your slide show and make any adjustments. You are now ready to save. You can save your slide show in three different ways. We are going to use two of the three.

1. Go to the FILE menu and select "Save." You will see a dialog box similar to the save dialog box you used when creating your slides. Name your slide show and be sure it saves in your folder. Please note you are saving as a "Normal" slide show. (Look at the buttons below where you named your slide show.)

When you save as a normal slide show, you must always have you pictures and slide show in the same folder.

2. Go the the FILE menu and select "Save As." You will see the same dialog box, but this time click on the "Stand Alone" button below where you named your slide show. This will create a stand alone version of your slide show that will play on any Mac (or Windows computer, if using that Kid Pix version.) You do not need individual slides to show this type of slide show. To play this type of slide show double click on its icon and it will play until you double click again.

You have now completed your Kid Pix Exploration Module. Congratulations!
